Two Celebrations. Two Very Different Versions of What it Means to Be an American
“We” will always be bigger than “me.”
Two celebrations.
One celebrated what we can become.
The other will undoubtedly celebrate who should get the credit.
President Obama opened his center with the most talented artists of our generation as well as leaders across party lines and around the world.
The other is supposed to celebrate 250 years of the American experiment, but feels more like it will be a tribute to one small, petty person.
This isn’t about entertainment.
It’s about leadership.
Hope.
Community.
Purpose.
Possibility.
The most influential leaders don’t spend their lives convincing people to look at them.
They inspire people to look beyond them.
One event talked about “we.”
The other will most certainly talk about “me.”
One celebration attracted artists, thinkers, and leaders from every corner.
The other will attract exactly who you’d expect.
“We” will always be bigger than “me.”

Look at you! Congratulations, I look forward to more of these.
